Simulating dynamics of the protective cap ejection
This model simulates the ejection of the protective cap of the guided shell head.
The cap consists of the cap itself and of a piston. The cap can move forward relative to the piston along the longitudinal axis. The free motion of the cap stops when it thrusts against the piston. An explosive charge is installed between the cap and the piston. At the initial time the tail-end of the cap is attached to the shell head. The piston is pressed against the shell head too.
The ejection of the cap occurs in the following way. After the explosion of the charge the cap starts moving forward. At this stage the cap bears on the piston and via the piston on the shell. The cap - shell bindings break. When the distance of the cap free motion relative to the piston is passed, the cap impacts the thrust. After that the cap and the piston move as a single whole. Due to the misalignment of the mass centres of the cap and the piston the cap starts spinning. Arising lateral aerodynamic force carries the cap aside.
