modeling mechanical systems

Estimation of the reduced mass in the collision of bodies.
When modeling the impact of two bodies, it is necessary to set the characteristics of stiffness and damping of the contact interaction. For a linear system (Kelvin-Focht model) these are stiffness and damping (dissipation) coefficients. Setting the stiffness characteristic is usually not difficult. Setting the characteristics of contact damping is not always convenient. Methods of determination of the reduced mass of impacted bodies are considered.
